The Civil War Today: Fort Granger (Tennessee)

Union forces engaged the Confederates from their positions at Fort Granger during the Battle of Franklin.

On the afternoon of November 30th, 1864, the Union men of Fort Granger took part in the Battle of Franklin against Confederate foes. Union forces were commanded by General John M. Schofield and faced off against a force led by Confederate General John Bell Hood. Fort Granger held a lofty position for Schofield overlooking the approaches to Franklin and its nearby waterways (Harpeth River). The Fort's field guns, men and position did its part in containing the Confederate advance - leading to the Union victory.
